Ben & Jerry’s to halt Waterbury tours, limit access for site construction

If you’re looking to spend time at the Ben & Jerry’s Waterbury factory beyond getting a scoop and a quick visit to the gift shop, mark your calendar for a nearly two-week closure coming up.
In order to make repairs in the vicinity of the upper parking area at the factory, tours will not be running starting Tuesday, May 27, through Sunday, June 8, the company announced this week.
In addition, the Flavor Graveyard and playground will be closed during the same time. The Scoop Shop and Gift Shop will remain open, but visitors should be aware that parking will be limited to the lower lot. There also will be no bus or RV parking allowed during this time.
Repairs are needed to fix a failing culvert, explained company spokesman Sean Greenwood. The road leading to the upper parking lot also will be regraded. For safety, the decision was made to limit offerings to the public at the plant during the construction period, he explained.
In a social media announcement, the company said, “We apologize for any in-CONE-venience.”
