Road Work Updates
Road work continues for a short week, given the Independence Day holiday on Friday. Stowe Street bridge demolition continues. I-89 southbound from Waterbury will have delays as milling and paving begins.
The Stowe Street bridge project and the I-89 southbound resurfacing project are both under way now and will have the largest impacts on local traffic. Also here are updates on smaller projects in Waterbury and notice of a major local project in Fayston.
Paving is underway on Kneeland Flats Rd. Park & Ride relocates ahead of bridge project. Surveying continues on I-89 southbound before resurfacing starts. And Fayston tackles a key flood-repair project.
I-89 resurfacing Waterbury-Montpelier is starting. Paving later this month on Kneeland Flats Rd. And a large ash tree being removed on S. Main St. in Waterbury will slow traffic.
Work soon will be under way on a two-year $15.2 million resurfacing project along Interstate 89 southbound between Waterbury and Montpelier.
Local and state road crews continue projects this week including in Duxbury where there will be paving and speed table installation on Main Street and work on a Rt. 100 bridge. Work on and adjacent to Interstate 89 north and south of Waterbury continues also.
Paving projects are scheduled for Union Street and Guptil Road in Waterbury this week. Union will be closed to through traffic and street parking Monday-Tuesday. Work continues on Interstate 89 northbound between Waterbury and Montpelier.
The newsiest Road Work Update in weeks: In Waterbury, Gregg Hill Road reopens after two months closed due to a collapsed culvert and Union Street to be closed Monday-Tuesday; paving on I-89 northbound between Montpelier and Waterbury getting underway; and a townwide road update for Duxbury.
Work is progressing on Camel's Hump Road in Duxbury slower than anticipated with bridge repairs expected to be completed this week. In Waterbury, multiple road projects are underway this week. A water/sewer line installation on Lincoln Street will mean one-lane traffic only on Wednesday and fixes are coming for the Gregg Hill 'chasm' and the Shaw Mansion 'dip.'

Monday is a holiday with work on most road and sidewalk projects halted for the day. In Waterbury, work will be ongoing however on the water line on Blush Hill in the vicinity of the Ashford Lane neighborhood.
Main Street curb and sidewalk repairs have been completed with one final step remaining to seal new concrete in the areas where patches were made. The work essentially ends the $21 million Main Street reconstruction project that began in 2019. Read about other road and sidewalk projects still ongoing this week in town and around the region.
Projects from last week made slow progress given rainy weather. Sidewalks are under construction on Main and Stowe streets this week.
Work has begun to complete repairs on downtown sidewalks where utility poles were removed earlier this summer.
This weekend, there are events that will affect traffic in Waterbury in addition to road-related projects around town Monday through Friday.
The Stowe Street bridge crew is removing old footings and prepping for new ones. Asphalt is being removed from I-89 southbound from Waterbury where just one lane is open for travel. Paving is to be completed Mon-Tues on Kneeland Flats Road.
