Weekly Road Work reports are assembled with information from the Vermont Agency of Transportation on projects in the region, the Waterbury Public Works Department, and other local highway departments for projects in Waterbury and neighboring communities as necessary.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through work zones and to follow posted speed limits. Speeding fines are doubled in work areas.

WATERBURY
Stowe Street bridge project
The former Stowe Street bridge structure over the Thatcher Brook near Vermont Route 100 and Blush Hill Road has been demolished. The 60-day road closure for the new bridge construction project runs into mid-August.
This week’s work will involve continued demolition of the remaining elements from the original bridge. Once complete, crews will begin channel excavation and slope work in preparation for the installation of the cofferdams that will direct the brook’s flow away from the work area.
During this construction period, motorists may get to Stowe Street from Main Street, Union Street, Railroad Street and Lincoln Street.
The Lincoln Street Park and Ride lot is closed with a temporary lot available downtown at the State Office Complex along Park Row at the end of Randall Street. Commuter buses also are using that lot with the Rural Community Transit buses also stopping at Shaw’s on Rt. 100.

The town is providing shuttle service around the bridge closure for local residents who rely on it for pedestrian access to Vermont Route 100. Contact Town Manager Tom Leitz to arrange for that transportation (802-244-4300 or tleitz@waterburyvt.com).
An additional closure of Lincoln Street will happen for up to 21 days when sections of the new bridge will be prepared for installation. That is not expected until late July or early August, according to project officials. More details on that will be announced closer to when that will take place.

Perry Hill
Ditch work continues this week on Perry Hill on Upland Mowing Road and Perry Lea Road.
DUXBURY
Main Street in Duxbury is slated to be paved in mid- to late July. More details will be announced closer to the time the work will be done.
RICHMOND
The bridge replacement project on U.S. 2 in Richmond, which has impacted travel on Interstate 89 in Richmond and on U.S. 2, is winding down. The latest VTrans update says that no work is expected this week as the project is shut down for the next several weeks with the contractor working elsewhere.
Interstate 89: Montpelier-Waterbury southbound
Work on this major Interstate 89 resurfacing project is underway. Motorists this week should expect major delays due to southbound lane closures between Exit 10 Waterbury/Stowe to Exit 8 Montpelier. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and fines are doubled.

Details for this week:
On Monday, June 30, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., expect a travel lane closure from Mile Marker 64.5 to 61.5. At 4 p.m. until further notice, the passing lane from Mile Marker 63.5 to 60.5 will be closed to travel.
From Monday through Thursday at noon, work will begin on deep-milling of the passing lane and installing the first of three layers of new pavement. No work will be done on Friday due to the Independence Day holiday.
This is a two-year, 10.5-mile resurfacing project to rebuild both travel lanes. The project is anticipated to last through this construction season and next summer, with completion targeted by Aug. 15, 2026, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
