New Stage Players holds auditions for fall production
July 17, 2025 | By Waterbury Roundabout
The New Stage Players will hold auditions next week to cast a fall stage production of the play “Middletown” by Will Eno.
Auditions will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, July 22-23 and 25, at the Grange Hall Cultural Center, 317 Howard Ave., in Waterbury Center. Each night, audition times will be 6-7 p.m. and 7-8 p.m.
Auditions are open to all with no previous theater experience necessary, according to director Monical Callan.
Those interested are asked to sign up in advance by sending an email to info.acrossroads@gmail.com with the subject line saying “AUDITIONS.” Note which date and time slot you would like to attend.
Bring a poem or monologue to read from, and know that sides will be provided. Scripts are also available at the Waterbury Public Library to view ahead of auditions. Anyone interested in auditioning but unable to attend the scheduled times is encouraged to contact Callan.
The show will run weekends, Nov. 7-23.
Middletown was created as a contemporary retelling of the 1938 American classic play “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder, set in 1901. The story explores enduring universal themes of daily life, earth and eternity, love and marriage, “creating a funny, whimsical, and ethereal theatrical journey for the complicated 21st century,” Callan describes. New Stage Players had a strong turnout for a table reading of the play this spring with the Waterbury Public Library.
