Caldwell Payne. 1958 – 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Caldwell (Cal) Payne of Stowe, Vermont, on June 16, 2025.

Cal had a deep and abiding love of the natural world. Whether hiking forest trails, tending his garden, or skiing down Vermont’s slopes, he found his greatest love outdoors. A gifted carpenter with an eye for beauty and detail, Cal had a remarkable talent for turning forgotten pieces of wood into finely crafted furniture, breathing life into what others might overlook.

He will be remembered for his strength, creative spirit, and deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Cal’s sense of humor and quick wit brought laughter to everyday moments, and his ability to find levity in any situation will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  

His memory lives on in his beloved partner, Annette, his children, Audrey, Noah and Aidan, his siblings Chris and Connie, and his grandchildren, Ingrid, Cisa and Mia.

Internment will be private at Waitsfield Cemetery.
