Summer reading isn’t just for the kids. The Waterbury Public Library has its own summer reading challenge for adults and plenty of ongoing and monthly programs to boot. 

First, an important July 3-4 note: The library will close early on Thursday, July 3, for a staff retreat and all day on Friday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Next, attention adult bibliophiles: The library once again this summer has Adult Bingo cards for summer reading, and they come in both regular and hard mode. Check them out here: Adult Bingo Card and Hard Mode Adult Bingo Card. Print out or pick up a card at the library. Then get reading and return your card by Aug. 16 to be entered into a prize drawing. (Only one Hard Mode card may be entered per person.)

SUMMER SERIES

Qi Gong for Vitality and Peace: Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m., in the library’s garden. End date: July 15.

Summer Watercolor with Pauline: Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Steele Room. No class on July 15. Newcomers, please register by July 29.  

Chair Yoga: Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., via Zoom.  No class on July 30 and Aug. 6. 

Duplicate Bridge: Thursdays, 12:30-4:30 p.m., on July 17, 24, 31. 

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program: Fridays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., in the Steele Community Room.  

Learn to Play Mahjong: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the second floor of the library.

Dungeons & Dragons and Tabletop Role Playing Group: Saturdays, 1-5 p.m. at the library. 

MONTHLY MEETINGS

The Silent Reading Parties have been wildly successful, meeting in a different location each month. In July, the party returns to the library where it will meet in the library’s garden, tended by the Books in Bloom volunteers. All are invited to attend on Saturday, July 26, at 5:30 p.m. 

Board Game Night: Meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the library, pizza provided. July 1, Aug. 5. 

Fiber Arts Friday: Meets on the second Friday of each month, noon to 2 p.m. July 11, Aug. 8.

Hand Stitching Group: Meets on the third Monday of each month, 6 to 8 p.m., at the library. July 21, Aug. 18.  

Grateful Gatherings: Meets on the third Tuesday of each month, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the library. The July 15 meeting has been canceled. The next meeting is Aug. 19

Blood on the Clocktower: Usually meets on the third Thursday of each month; however, this month it will meet on July 31, 6-8 p.m., at the library. Next meeting: Aug. 21
