Moose Meadow Lodge in Duxbury provides the outdoor setting to hear the big orchestral sound of the Vermont Philharmonic’s Summer Pops concert on Sunday, Aug. 10.

Under the baton of longtime Music Director Lou Kosma, the orchestra will entertain the audience with music from West Side Story and Carmen (“March of the Toreadors”) and composers Leroy Anderson and Duke Ellington.

Concertmaster Joanna Alpizar will sing “Sabor a Mi,” and principal clarinetist Margaret Barsumian will perform the rousing “Clarinet Polka.”  The program also features a piece by a young Vermont composer, Alexander Maroney, along with audience favorites including “Washington Post March,” “Ashokan Farewell,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and a finale of “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Now in its 66th Season, the Vermont Philharmonic is based at the Barre Opera House and is composed of professional and talented amateur musicians from throughout Vermont. Vermont’s oldest community orchestra, it was founded in 1959 by Jon Borowicz, emeritus professor of music at Norwich University.

Moose Meadow Lodge is located at 607 Crossett Hill Road in Duxbury.  The grounds open at 3 p.m. for picnicking with the concert scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. In case of rain, the performance will be held nearby at Harwood Union High School, 458 Route 100, Duxbury.

Tickets: $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $5 for students, $55 for a family of four. Purchase in advance online at vermontphilharmonic.com or at the venue (cash or check).
