LETTER: Time to say goodbye to The Tiny Acorn

To the Community:

With just three more months of magic, I write and share this news on behalf of Bob and Sally Dain, proprietors of The Tiny Acorn for over 20 years. The Tiny Acorn will close its doors on August 15.

The Tiny Acorn has been a place of discovery, imagination and community. Multiple generations have grown up visiting the toy store, selecting gifts, and eventually bringing their own children and grandchildren to this Waterbury institution.

I myself took my first trip into the world at only 6 days old to attend a Story Hour with Sally Dain at her shop. Years later, she'd hand me a stack of toy catalogues, asking me and my sisters to circle what we liked so she had a kids’ perspective on what products to bring into The Tiny Acorn.

When I was old enough, I began working at The Tiny Acorn before eventually becoming a semi-permanent staff member on Mondays. Now I'm helping them prepare to close this chapter and say goodbye. I'm just one person who has grown with The Tiny Acorn. I know I'm not the only one.

Please join me in embracing their final months of magic in Waterbury village. Their doors will officially close on August 15, but the space will be largely emptied in the weeks before. Shop these next few weeks and months. Share stories and memories. Bring them a flood of final customers and show them just how big their impact has been.

Thank you, Bob and Sally Dain, for decades of magic.

We'll do our part to make these last few months ones you can cherish forever.
