Florida timeshare auction announced to support Harwood Athletics
May 30, 2025 | By Waterbury Roundabout
UPDATE June 11: Unfortunately, this event did not draw bids to make an award. Harwood AD Ian Fraunfelder said they may try again in the fall to raffle off this opportunity.
Harwood Athletic Director Ian Fraunfelder has announced a special fundraiser running through June 10 with proceeds to support school athletic programs.
“We are excited to announce that we are doing a raffle for a timeshare at the Orlando-Marriott Grand Vista Resort over the district's Spring Break next year, April 18-25, 2026,” Fraunfelder said.
Travel is not included in the prize. The two-bedroom villa can accommodate 6-8 people with one king-sized bed in one bedroom, two queen beds in the other bedroom, and a sofa bed. The stay is worth $2,300. View the resort website for more details about accommodations here.
The Eagles Resort in Waitsfield donated the prize recently for a Harwood Athletics fundraiser as a grand-prize option, and it was not awarded, Fraunfelder said. The donor was eager to offer the accommodations as a way to support school sports programs, so the additional raffle/auction was created.
“We will open this up to bids. The minimum bid is $200,” Fraunfelder explained. “All bids must be submitted by June 10, and the winner will be announced on June 11.”
Organizers have a reserve bid in mind. Should this fundraiser not meet that goal, the trip will be re-auctioned at a later date.
To place a bid, send an email to HUathletics-sl@huusd.org. Fraunfelder said bids would be treated as sealed and not shared during the auction time period.
This post will be updated with the results on June 11.
Other Athletics Department announcements
The May 30 Harwood Union MS-HS family newsletter had several other updates from the Athletics Department:
Starting this fall, middle school students will be asked to identify their first and second choices when registering for sports. The request will help ensure that if cuts need to be made in a student's first-choice sport, they already have a spot reserved in their alternate option. “As participation numbers continue to grow, we are also facing limitations in coaching availability, facility capacity, supervision, and overall safety. Because of these constraints, we may need to limit team sizes in order to ensure students’ safety and effective coaching support,” the announcement explains. More details are online here.
High school fall sports are scheduled to start on Aug 14. The pre-season parent meeting will be held on Aug 6. More information will be shared about signups by the end of this school year. (Last day of school is June 18.)
Harwood currently does not have an athletic trainer on staff. The school has been working this year with VASTA physical therapy in Waterbury for attention to student athletes’ needs regarding injury prevention and recovery. More details about that partnership are online here. VASTA staff will be communicating with coaches regarding student-athletes they have seen to date, school officials noted.
Finally, anyone wishing to make a nomination to the Harwood Hall of Fame can find details about that process here. Harwood’s Hall of Fame is not limited to former athletes or coaches. Once submitted, nominations also remain active for consideration for 10 years.
