Six local students from Brookside Primary School and Crossett Brook Middle School participated in the University of Vermont Math Fair on Saturday, May 3.
Jacob Rye, Txunamy Eley, Theo Bennette, Audrey Conyers, and JD Cauchon represented CBMS, while Finn Kelley represented BPS.
Each student researched a topic of their interest related to mathematics and worked with a partner or individually to create a poster and presentation. They presented their projects to judges from throughout the state and were scored on oral presentation, mathematical understanding, visual representations, and the appearance and organization of their poster.
The state competition awards medals for students who place in the top three in their grade level category.
Finn Kelley earned a gold medal in the K-4 category with his project, “Perfect Squares.” Txunamy Eley and Audrey Conyers earned a silver medal in the 5th/6th-grade category with their project, “Newton’s Laws of Motion.” Theo Bennette and JD Cauchon earned a bronze medal in the 5th/6th-grade category with their project “Trigonometry.”
Jacob Rye presented “Stock Market Math” in the 7th/8th-grade category.
