Middle schoolers look to support three charities with walk-a-thon

May 8, 2025 | By Narumi Anderson

Harwood Union Middle School is hosting its second annual walk-a-thon on Thursday, May 15, at the Harwood track, and students have chosen three charities to support with proceeds.

A Team Terra humanities project, this fundraiser is organized and hosted by the 7th-grade students on the team.

The event is scheduled from 1:55 to 3:20 p.m. It will kick off Spirit Week for the students at Harwood.

After students composed persuasive essays about numerous causes that mattered to them, students voted as a team to determine which issues they would focus on for the walk-a-thon. Dog adoption, Ukraine aid, and plastic in the ocean were the chosen causes. Students are raising money for the following charities: For the Love of Dogs VT, Ukraine Children’s Aid Fund, and Ocean Conservancy

While this is mainly a school event, students welcome any donations to support these charities. Community members can support the fundraiser by sending donations via Venmo to @HUMS-Walk-a-Thon-2025, by check written to Harwood Union High School (memo: walkathon), mailed to Harwood Union Middle School, 458 VT. RTE. 100, Moretown, VT 05660; or cash donations dropped off at the school.

Narumi Anderson is a seventh grader at Harwood Union Middle School.
